Synology DS1618+ Review

DS1618+ Review

The Perfect Small Studio NAS?

After moving into a new studio last year, I decided to make some network changes to help streamline our backup system while also adding an additional layer of protection. This included adding an additional Synology NAS for additional space. I added an expansion unit, the DX517 (shown below) to the Synology NAS that I already had installed a couple of years ago, the DS1817+. I also added a new NAS, the 6-Bay Synology DS1618+ which I filled with Seagate 10TB Ironwolf NAS Pro HDDs.

I wrote up a full review of the DS1618+ for SLR Lounge in which I also shared my newly updated network diagram of the studio (shown below). The new diagram shows the addition of both the DS1618+ and the expansion unit DX517. Under the DS1618+ you can see a different G-technology RAID unit than what I had in the previous diagram. I previously had two older, dual drive units. I replaced both of them with a new Thunderbolt3 28TB G-RAID which is used as my working drive. THIS is another great option for a Thunderbolt3 G-RAID working drive. Click below to see full review of the Synology DS1618+ along with more details of my updated 10Gbe network!
